Nursing students’ evolving professional values: Capturing their journey through co-operative inquiry

Despite a worldwide emphasis in nursing codes of practice that state nurses must uphold professional values to be caring and compassionate, evidence continues emerge poor-quality care standards. Existing literature attests tendency deteriorating as students’ progress through their programme. In response, one university England exposed pre-registration students values-based curriculum which embedded Todres et al.’s (2009) Humanising Values Framework. This paper describes the later stages co-operative inquiry, where participants explore evolving around person-centred approaches they engaged with clinical practice. Data were collected between 2013 2016. Findings reveal how developed confidence resilience face situations challenged value base by internalising humanised approach care. They demonstrated this using problem-based coping strategies, peer mentor support. Engagement based on humanistic philosophy encouraged feel confident
